Marc Broussard Show: Lighting Design

I was always amazed by the lighting design at concerts and shows. Coming to Full Sail, I wanted to be an Audio Engineer. I never knew much about lighting until I took LCD in Full Sail. Lighting was something I wanted to learn, but when I attended the Marc Broussard show in the Live Venue during the Hall of Fame week in Full Sail, I knew it was something I wanted to do sometime in my life.

The lighting was an addition to the musical content. It felt like the lights had an emotional and physical impact on the audience. I was really amazed with the lighting at the show. I forgot everything about audio and was paying attention to the beams of light penetrating the air. There were some LED fixtures that were in the center truss above the audience that added some extra flare to the show. They were very bright when they focused directly at your face, and I think that’s the way a person can get physically connected to the lights. I’m pretty sure there were fixtures that were rented because I never saw them on campus or in the live venue. I believe they were Martin fixtures and they were mounted on to boom trusses on the sides of the stage and some were just on the stage deck. They were only used for effects and did their job. The lights were like additional performers on stage. They appeared and performed when the time was right. There was one song during the show, Mardi Gras, that was made for the lights to display their abilities. I liked how the lights had two different colors. I never know it was possible to have two different colors coming from one fixture until I saw it at it at the show. The haze in the venue really improved the light show by creating an additional canvas for the lights to spread. I wish it were possible to see that same light show without the haze in the room. It was so great that, I’m having a feeling it would have a different, but not a bad impact on the audience.

I really enjoyed how the lights created another level of energy at the show. I think I paid too much attention to the lights then I had to. But I was really amazed at how the lights added another dimension to such a great show. I’m willing to learn as much as I can to get to that level of production and higher.
